A CALL FOR SCIENTIFIC REVOLUTION – A PARADIGM SHIFT

This call for a paradigm shift has become necessary, in view of the fact that there exists a paradigm where this phenomenon on the APE-MAN myth had been correctly explained, as you will discover from this discourse in the following passages.

I find the philosophy of Thomas S. Kuhn, quoted below from Rev. Fr. John Sigo’s booklet, titled “POLITICAL JESUS”, very useful in discussing the issue of SCIENTIFIC ERROR arising from the teaching as a scientific fact, ‘EVOLUTION’, now reduced to a hypothesis (a mere guess work) because it cannot be proven; Hence the call for A PARADIGM SHIFT.

“The philosopher of science, Thomas S. Kuhn, in analyzing the process of scientific revolutions has put up the theory that when new facts and situation emerge within a particular area of science which can no longer be accommodated or explained by the reigning paradigm, its proponents begin to lose confidence in that paradigm and a new paradigm is called for. A paradigm shift thus takes place when a new Paradigm replaces an older one and this means a scientific revolution.

According to Kuhn, a paradigm comprises the general theoretical assumptions with the laws and methods for their application which inform the attitude and operation of members of a particular scientific community.”

Because the issue requires the interaction of FAITH with SECULAR realities, a theological approach has been adopted, hence the title used here for the discourse under reference is “INTEGRATING RELIGION WITH ELEMENTS OF SCIENCE.”

TOPIC: EVOLUTION

1.    “Some Scientific matters are known to be factually true; that is, they are certain. Beyond doubt. Others are reasonable conjectures generally accepted as the by specialists in the field. Still other are untested hypothesis awaiting verification through further work.

2.    “The Understanding of ‘Evolution’ is not Scientific”

The history of science offers man examples of self-corrective process. It is worthwhile to examine few of these, even briefly, to see the dynamics at work.

One set of bones was more significant, however. In 1908, the famous French anatomist, Marcellin Boule carefully studied a recently discovered Neanderthal skeleton. This specimen was important for it was the first fairly complete skeleton of an ancient man. Using it, science could understand the details of a typical Neanderthal’s body structure. Boule’s representation of Neanderthal showed a hunched-over, misshapen creature with bent legs and face thrust forward, not unlike the stance of a gorilla. This depiction was highly influential for decades hereinafter; it was reproduced in textbooks, drawing, and museum displays around the world.

But later discoveries of Neanderthal finds cast doubt over Boule’s work. In 1957, a team of anatomists re-examined Boule’s original skeleton and found a serious source of error, the Neanderthal man had suffered from a case of severe arthritis. His stance was indeed hunched-over, but was not genetic in origin and was not typical. Today, we believe that ancient people walked and stood almost exactly as we do.

It is important to realize that, when scientists classify ancient fossils into distant species, they do exclusively based on anatomical structure.

Modern man’s brain averages 1250cc but with wide variation. It typically falls between the extremes of 1000cc and 2000cc.

Homo erectus being small in stature, varied between 775cc, and 1200cc. All of these figures are larger than those for apes and ape-like stature which is 450cc on average.

From above, it is obvious that the scientific world cannot provide the answers to the ORIGIN and NATURE of CREATION. And so will the origin of the Nature of man remain a puzzle to all who have not accepted the fact that God created man as a UNIQUE BEING?
